That steel process sounds revolutionary on many levels!

I looked it up, and it effectively changes steel making from a batch process to a continuous process.

Furthermore, it seems the USA has known about the idea since at least 2012, but hasn't done anything to further development/implementation.

Reminds me of my corporate career where we were so culturally stuck in our old ways that we couldn't implement the superior Japanese manufacturing techniques no matter how many TPS/"lean" initiatives/consultants/specialists we employed.

America's problems are cultural.

I think an interesting question is how fast high speed rail can end up going in principle. Eventually, if you make the track straight enough and you put the train inside of a reduced-pressure tunnel (could be a vacuum, but maybe there's gains to simply lowering the pressure), then could the HSR eventually go as fast or even faster than an airplane?

If a regional high speed rail is developed, it seems like it could greatly strengthen China's position in southeast asia and central asia.
