hi Luisa, a very good question. the short answer is no. while McNamara expressed regret about the war, he was emphasizing the strategic and policy mistakes as I summarized in the article. he never issued any apologies to the Vietnamese in public till his death or expressed remorse about the human toll, except the 58000 US casualties. the book and his interview in TV documentary Fog of War were clinical cold lessons learned about poor prosecution of the war, rather than regret with human losses. Big erroneous assumption fed by western MSM lies. Biden basically drew down the sour crude stocks in the strategic reserves in his last 2 years to keep the pump prices from exploding. So US needs a constant flow of sour crude to keep their system/economy working... biggest proportion comes from Canada, but they're still short quite a few million barrels a day. The light condensates from fracking can make gasoline at best, with a lot of natural gas inputs..
US has no oil that it can sell to the rest of the world. It can't even keep its own lights on if this goes on much longer. Simple fact.

indeed the US dependency on oil and gas for energy supply is much higher than China’s - 74% vs. 30%. China has self-sufficient coal supply and a much more diversified renewable energy sources. inflating gas price is a shot on the foot for the US if its intention is to hurt China.
