I agree. I think Putin will go down Russian history as a great leader and transformer of his country. I only feel he may give too much credits to the rationality of his US and NATO enemies. Maybe Xi is the same. Rational people tend to project their rationality to others unwisely. I just hope this won't hurt them too badly.

I write what I think and not to please anyone. I don't care whether someone agrees or not. Feel free to read writers whose views you share or better yet, write your own stack.

I agree with your analysis of Putin's overly rationalistic and legalistic approach to the threats from the US / NATO. Interestingly your analysis dovetails nicely with that of Paul Craig Roberts.

this, of course is an excellent, if not the most important question.

Putin took a weakened Russia and built it to the point where it has been able to withstand NATO/US assault.

That does not mean he is perfect and he is not getting any younger.

Maybe his most important task is to find a successor equal to who he was when he took over.
