needless to say, the comments about Britain or the west refers to the ruling elite. The population is more victim than beneficiary of empires. The financial and human costs are born by them, never the elites. Unfortunately, they are too often manipulated and brainwashed to embrace the narrative promoted by these elites.

A short walk from where I live in Shenzhen is a cultural centre which has a small corner let out to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I went there a few days ago to see if they had any Chinese artefacts from their massive stolen collection which I saw a few years ago, but no hint of that!

As a Brit, I found that amusing. I think British elites still have delusions of grandeur, but most of the ordinary people don't.
